About Me
My name is David McMackins. That’s me up there. Allegedly.
I’ve been programming computers since 2013 in a variety of languages. My favorites are C (not C++) and Ruby. Professionally, I write Java. You can find most of my programming projects on GitHub. Some of them are under a different org I used when I thought I was going to be a freelancer.
Free software has been an important part of my life. I have successfully avoided proprietary software for many, many years now, and I could not be happier about that decision. I think it’s very important to value ownership and not to capitulate to ridiculous corporate demands and expectations.
Hobbies
I have only one hobby: collecting other hobbies. My collection includes:
- Amateur radio
- Photography
- Using old technology
- Music
- Tabletop role-playing games
- Target shooting
- Fountain pens
- RC aircraft
I also learned toki pona in 2021 for no good reason, and I have an unusual interest in traffic cones.
